What's your game plan for Brazil after a 5th and a 17th in the first two events? Are you feeling any added pressure for the upcoming drop in surfers from 45 to 32?
I'm not feeling any pressure at all. I'm just heading over to Brazil to enjoy the place. I've done well in the past there, so I'm looking to repeat that form.
What comfort level are you at for Brazil? You've finished runner-up here before - do you think this is one of the better opportunities for you to win your first event?
These days there is no wave that a surfer can really rely on for a result. I take every event with the same attitude. I have done well in Brazil in the past, but I've also had a 33rd. Every surfer is good on their day, so I take it heat by heat at every spot. I'm definitely looking for my first victory. I've been close with a couple of 3rds and a 2nd. It's around the corner.
What type of boards and how many of them are you taking to Brazil?
I'm riding all Matt Penn boards under the label INSIGHT. I'm taking a variety of boards in the 6'0 and 6'1 range. 5 in total.
Who do you travel with on tour? Who are you traveling with to Brazil?
I travel with a variety of the boys. It depends on who is bringing wives, trainers or girlfriends. I'm staying with Luke Stedman in Brazil.
What do you do in Brazil when the comp isn't on? Is there anything you make a point to do while you're there?
We stay at an awesome beach a 1/2 hour from the contest. It is set on a hillside with a little lagoon at the bottom. It's fun to just chill out around our place. We are always surfing no matter what. Maybe a cheesy challenge if the waves allow it.
Have you ever played Fantasy Surfer?
I don't play it ha ha.
Would you have selected yourself for your team? Of course I'd be my number one pick.
