Fantasy Surfer Interview With Dean Morrison

Monday, August 16, 2010

Fantasy Surfer: What do you think about the mid-year cutoff and the shrinking of the World Tour field?

Dean Morrison: I don't really understand why it's happening or why it is necessary, I thought it was fine the way it was before. There are a lot of guys on tour who have slow starts. I'll let you know if I like it or not after this event!

What kind of conditions would you like to see for this year’s event at Teahupoo?

Solid continuous swell, with perfect Teahupoo barrels.

With careers at stake at this event, do you think guys will take unnecessary risks at Teahupoo?

If the risks pay off they may not be unnecessary and if they don’t then they will be. It's gonna be a big event, that’s for sure. It’ll be exciting to watch, especially if there is good surf this year.

You are currently 38th heading into Tahiti, what place do you need to finish to safely make the top 32 cut?

I don't know exactly. I know that I have to do really well and I will definitely try my best to make something happen. Hopefully that will be enough to make the cut.

If you did miss the cutoff would you do the QS to try and get back on for 2011?

Not sure yet, gonna see what happens first.

Do you play Fantasy Surfer?

No, but I have a lot of friends and family that do.

Who would you put on your Fantasy team for the Teahupoo contest?

The idea of choosing other people that I want to do well in an event that I’m trying to win, seems a little strange to me.

Thanks for the time and we hope to be seeing you at Trestles!

Thanks mate!
